Intro to essential oils

Many of us are exploring the increasing array of home, cleaning, and bath and body products that contain EOs as a natural alternative to fragrances and chemicals.  These "essences" are usually extracted from plants by steam or cold pressing.  Though natural, they are incredibly potent and should be used with some knowledge, as they can be harmful if misused.

Main Things

  • I use a 1-2% dilution in my various products.  If you are a sensitive individual, consider testing the product on your inner forearm to confirm you don't have a reaction.  I have yet to encounter anyone using my products having any issues--but we are all different

  • The jury is out on the therapeutic benefits of essential oils. There have been multiple studies showing variable results, and there is even more web-based "information" out there to consume hours of study. I name my blends based on the suggested benefits of the individual component EOs, but I do not claim or cannot claim that they will fix what ails you. I believe the blends that you enjoy most are likely what you "need" at the time and may change over time. Explore and send me any feedback. Personally, I am in love with the "What a Relief" blend. I can't tell you that it necessarily relieves body aches and pains, but it does satisfy my soul.

  • Babies, pregnant women, and breastfeeding moms should avoid almost all essential oils. There are some, like lavender and tea tree, in particular, that can be fine in 0.5–1% dilution. If you are interested in a special formulation or blend, let me know.

  • Citrus-based essential oils can be "sun-sensitizing." I love the scents of all citrus EOs but avoid them in my lotions for this reason. You can still use them, but consider using them at night, and use sun protection, always.
